Area Rug Cleaning
Fine rugs are works of art, and washing and caring for them is an art form in itself
Due to the various characteristics in rugs, precise identification and adjustment of technique is crucial to the proper care of fine rugs. Only a professional should be responsible for these important decisions.
DO NOT use standard carpet cleaning companies for your Oriental rugs (i.e. Persian rugs, Indian rugs, Chinese rugs, or any wool Oriental rugs).
Commercial cleaners use steam and abrasive chemicals that would destroy the wool, lanolin, and color in your rug.
At Atlas Rugs Gallery we pride ourselves in providing a professional cleaning service for our valued clients. Such professional cleaning at Atlas Rug Gallery will bring out the softness of the wool and the richness of color.
Step 1: Free Home Pick Up and Rug Pre-Inspection in Select Cities
You can relax knowing that your Oriental rug is in our professional and capable hands for cleaning. Atlas Rug Gallery will determine the type of rug and the inherent qualities that may affect the rug cleaning process and will outline our expected results and create a cleaning “prescription”. We will investigate and will clean the following damages:
- Pet odors and waste, such as pet urine, feces, and vomit
- Spots and stains such as coffee, tea, orange juice, soda, etc
- Mold and mildew
- Color Bleeding, dye stains, discoloration and browning
- Dry and wet rot
- Fading
- Worn and rotten fringes

Step 2: Removal of Dry Soil
Hand-knotted rugs are designed to conceal dry dirt. An average 9′ x 12′ rug can hide over 10 pounds of dirt! We will use a special vacuum and various techniques to lift the dry dirt out of your rug – a vital step in the cleaning process.
Step 3: Rug Pre-Condition
Depending on the soiling type and fiber content, your rug will be pre-treated with an organic solution to emulsify the accumulation of soils throughout the years.
Step 4: Organic Pre-Spot and Fringe Preparation
Our rug cleaning specialist will locate any difficult spots and will pre-treat your rug with special organic solutions to increase chances of removal. The fringe is also pre-treated with a special organic formula for maximum soil removal.
Step 5: Shampoo
Most Oriental rugs are cleaned with an organic Oriental rug shampoo that is especially engineered to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers.
Step 6: Rinse or Wash
Depending on your type of rug, your entire rug will be rinsed with extraction equipment or washed in a wash pit designed especially for Oriental Rugs. We will introduce fresh, clean water to rinse away the particles of dirt and other contaminates.
Step 7: Speed Dry Initiated
Once we rinse away the soil, your rug is either hung or laid flat to dry in a controlled environment. Your rug specialist will determine the proper method of drying to avoid unnatural shrinkage.
Step 8: Vacuum
When the rug is dry, we will vacuum your rug one last time to pick up any dry soils which may have come loose during the wet wash.
Step 9: Rug Combing, Rug Brushing, Fringe Grooming
We will comb and brush your rug with special rug grooming tools to bring back its luxurious appearance.
Step 10: Post Inspection and Delivery
Atlas Rug Gallery’s cleaning specialist will give your rug a final inspection before releasing it for delivery. At this time, we will contact you to schedule a courteous delivery. We will move all necessary furniture to lay your rug down properly. As an optional service, we will provide a non-skid pad to protect your floor and protect the longevity of your piece of art.

Rug Repair and Restoration
Sometimes the life of your rug hangs by a single thread. With expertise handed down from father to son, our rug specialists can address any repairs to your Oriental rug. Oriental rugs are pieces of art! The understanding, skill, and craftsmanship necessary to repair and restore Oriental rugs is an art form as well.
With over 40 years of experience in repairing and restoring rugs, our rug specialists can reweave the following damages:Area Rug Fringe Repair
Based on the construction of your rug, our rug specialist will examine your rug to determine the type of fringe repair that is necessary.
Whether your rug is hand-knotted or machine made, we will reweave a new fringe for you. We can also remove the current fringe and dye it to a specific color. This process can be time consuming, but it will be made to revitalize your rug and to last. We take pride in our craftsmanship and the quality of our work.
Area Rug Edge Serging Repair
Serging is the process by which the sides of your Oriental rugs are secured with wool, synthetic thread, or cotton in order to protect them and keep them from unraveling. Serging gives your rug a fine, finished appearance.
The rug edges must be solid enough before we can start the serging process. We will reinforce the edges prior to serging to add to the durability and longevity of your rug. Again, our rug specialist will repair your rug by hand to ensure quality of work.
Area Rug Edge Binding Repair
Over many years of traffic or abuse, the binding of your oriental rug may start to unravel. Our rug specialist will first match the wool color, then hand weave the binding back to its original form.
Area Rug Patching Repair
For aesthetic or monetary reasons, patching may be more a suitable option to repair holes. We recommend that patching to be done as soon as the holes are discovered in order to prevent more extensive damage to your rug.
Area Rug Backing Repair
Various rugs such as hooked rugs, machine rugs, or hand-tufted rugs have different types of backing. The backing of the rugs will extend the longevity of the rug’s life by securing the knots in place and/or protecting the back.
Oriental Rug Reweaving Repair
Depending on the damage and the value of your rug, we may recommend reweaving the damaged areas. Even though this process requires a lot of time and expert workmanship, it is the best option if you desire to bring your rug back to its original condition.
We begin by cleaning the damaged areas of the rug. Then, we sew on new threads into the hole in order to repair the foundation of the rug. We match the color and texture of the existing threads to the new threads of the rug. Our rug specialists are trained to use the same knots as the original weaver, a technique that will minimize the appearance of the repair.
Estimates are always free. We offer free pick-up and delivery. With over 40 years of rug repairs we like to share our family tradition with you!
